60,000MW of electricity by 2041: Nasrul
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today told parliament that the government has taken programmes to generate 40,000MW of power by 2030 and 60,000MW by 2041.
The minister said this while responding to a query made by Jatiya Party MP Syed Abu Hossen at the question-answer session which was tabled at the Jatiya Sangsad with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
At present, the country's total power generation capacity is 27,361MW, including captive and renewable energy sources, Hamid said.
"A maximum of 15,648MW electricity was generated on April 19 but the country's power generation capacity was 4,942MW or real production was around 3,268MW when the current government assumed power in 2008," BSS quoted him as saying.
GAS RESERVES FOR 10 YEARS
He also said that including the reserves of the newly discovered gas field Elisha, the primary gas reserves in the country stands at 40.43 trillion cubic feet and the extractable gas reserves are 28.76 trillion cubic feet.
Of this, 19.94 trillion cubic feet have been extracted till May 31, last year, and 8.82 trillion cubic feet of reserves are remaining.
The minister said, considering the average daily gas production of 2,200 million cubic feet, this gas will last for 10 years.
