Adani Power to supply 750MW electricity from March: Nasrul Hamid
The State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid, said Bangladesh will get a supply of 750MW of electricity from Adani Godda Power Plant from mid-March.
Nasrul Hamid today visited the under-construction power plant in Godda district of India's Jharkhand.
He said, the power plant is producing around 250MW electricity in its test run. "By mid-March, we hope to get around 750MW of electricity from the power plant," he said.
Half of the Adani Godda Power Plant will be commissioned in March 26 this year, after commercial operation was rescheduled several times.
According to Power Purchase Agreement, the Required Commercial Operations Date (COD) of the First Unit was January 5 last year but was later shifted to December 16 as per the request of Adani Power Limited.
However, it was not possible to get half of the net 1,496 MW coal fired electricity then.
A 106-km dedicated transmission line from Godda to Chapainawabganj's Rohanpur being constructed by the Adani group was connected to the national grid of Bangladesh with two substations in Rohanpur and Bogura.
"Due to the dedicated transmission line, the power purchase rate may be slightly higher than others," said Nasrul Hamid, adding that the coal will be imported at international rate for the power plant which also impacted the purchase rate.
"Now the coal price is much higher than when we signed the PPA. When we signed the PPA, the coal price was around $.06 which is now over $.17," he said.
Right now, the cost of per unit (kWh) electricity will be Tk 17, said the state minister.
The state minister said, "With the dedicated transmission line, we want to build the power connectivity to Nepal, Bhutan and Assam on a large scale. And we are talking with Adani for another solar project which would also be transmitted through the line."
