Committee formed to probe how capacity charge section was included in IMED report
The Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) today formed a three-member committee to identify how a chapter on capacity charges of power plants was included in a research report of the division.
"A three-member committee was formed headed by additional secretary Gazi Md Saifuzzaman," Abul Kashem Md Mohiuddin, secretary of IMED, told The Daily Star.
IMED sources said the committee was instructed to submit the report in the next seven working days.
The other two members are IMED Joint Secretary Wahida Hamid and Senior Assistant Secretary Md Moinuddin Khanduker.
On June 25, the IMED website uploaded a research paper on the power sector, saying the model of capacity payments to power plants is a "model of robbery" and is a reflection of ill-motivated contracts.
However, on July 7, after news of the report had been published on different media outlets, the chapter related to capacity charges was omitted from the report available on the website. So, the report has come down to 54 pages from 58.
Officials related to the research said the chapter was mistakenly included in the report, and it was not written by any of the researchers.
