An eight-foot-long python was rescued from a paddy field in Rajeshwar village under Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat and later released into the Sundarbans this afternoon.

Alam Hawlader, a field facilitator of the upazila's Wild Team, rescued the snake around 12:00pm.

The python measured approximately 8 feet in length and weighed around 10 kilograms.

Alam said that the python had become trapped in a fence surrounding a paddy field in Madhukhar area.

"Upon receiving a call from locals, we went to the spot and rescued it. Later, upon consultation with the Forest Department's Sharankhola Range, the snake was safely released into the Dhabri area of the Sundarbans," he added.

Rana Deb, Range Officer of the East Sundarbans Sharankhola Range, confirmed the release.

"Residents living near forest areas have been advised to remain alert and report any future sightings of wild animals," he said.
