Low pressure over Bay likely to turn into depression: IMD
The low pressure over east equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression over parts of south Bay tomorrow.
The depression is likely to move towards southern Indian state Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coasts in the subsequent two days, the Indian met office said today.
However, the IMD and National Centres for Environmental Protection are forecasting that the low pressure is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm on November 26 close to Sri Lankan coast and thereafter it may change direction towards Myanmar-Sri Lanka coasts from November 28.
"There is a large variation among various [forecasting] models with respect to track and intensification [of the system]. Some of the models are indicating steering of the system in northeast direction under the influence of trough in westerlies from November 26," said the IMD's latest bulletin.
