Threat of landslides in hilly region as 'very heavy rain' forecast
Under the Influence of active monsoon, heavy (44-88mm) to very heavy (89mm or more) rainfall is likely to occur at places over the country in the 24 hours from 9:00m today.
Due to the heavy to very heavy rainfall, landslides may occur at places over the hilly regions of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The axis of monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across northern part of Bangladesh, said the weather forecast valid for 24 hours commencing 9:00am today.
One of its associated troughs extends up to the north Bay. Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong over north Bay, according to the weather forecast.
BMD said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over the country with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country.
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to keep hoisted signal number 3.
