Venomous sea snake spotted on Cox's Bazar sea beach
A yellow-bellied sea snake, one of the most venomous ones, has washed up ashore at Samitypara Point of Cox's Bazar beach.
According to Abdur Rashed Manik, a local journalist who filmed the incident, he and a group of locals spotted the snake on the beach. However, the snake eventually retreated back into the sea after a short while.
Professor Sayedur R Chowdhury of the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Chittagong said yellow-bellied sea snakes are very venomous.
This is a common sea snake, but rare to find on the shore, he added.
This snake is found several times in Cox's Bazar in the last couple of months.
"Most of the sea snakes are venomous. Since we don't have anti-venoms, people should be cautious if they saw this species of snake. They should keep their distance and let the snake return to the sea", he said.
