Former BCL leader beaten to death in Cox’s Bazar, 1 held

Unknown criminals beat a former Chhatra League leader to death in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar earlier today.

Deceased Md Sohel Rana (25) was a former joint convener of Chakaria municipality unit of Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami league, our Cox's Bazar correspondent reports.

Police arrested one in this connection, Chakaria Police Station Inspector (investigation) Md Ashraf Hossain confirmed today.

According to witnesses, Sohel went to Hajipara to visit his ancestral property after hearing that the property was being grabbed.

At that time around 1:30am, unidentified criminals beat Sohel, leaving him seriously injured.

He was rushed to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Inspector (investigation) Ashraf said that a man Abdul Mannan (34), was arrested in connection with the incident.

"If we receive any written complaint from the victim's family, we will take legal action in this regard," the inspector added.
