SA thrash WI by 257 runs
South Africa overwhelmed West Indies by a whopping 257 runs in the 19th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
Imran Tahir ran circles around hapless West Indian batters with his leg-spin, and picked up five wickets for 45 runs in his quota of 10 overs.
He polished the lower-middle order of the Caribbeans, and accounted for Dinesh Ramdin, Dwayne Smith, Lendl Simmons, Darren Sammy and Andre Russell.
South African pacer Kyle Abbot took two quick wickets when West Indies came out to bat in chase of the mammoth 408 posted by their opponents.
Man of the match AB de Villiers smashed the second fastest century in World Cup history, and ended up with 162 runs from 66 balls. He was severe on all the West Indian bowlers, and struck 17 fours and 8 sixes in his knock.
His belligerent innings as well as Rilee Rossouw's 61 runs from 39 balls propelled South Africa to a mammoth total of 408 runs in this match.
Hashim Amla's 65 and faf du Plessis's 62 provided the platform for the SA batters to cut loose later in the innings.
Earlier, West Indian captain Jason Holder gave away 104 runs in his 10 overs, picking up the wicket of Quinton de Kock in the sixth over.
Chris Gayle snared up two quick wickets with his part-time offies. He bowled four overs for 21 runs in the match.
Caribbean bowlers bowled a tight line and curbed down on the run rate after the Proteas won the toss and came out to bat.
