NU Exam Centre: AL postpones rally, but it's little too late
Amid criticism from different quarters, the public meeting of local Awami League, which was scheduled to be held yesterday at a National University examination centre in Gazipur, was postponed.
As many as 1,600 students of Tongi Government College were to take their master's exams starting at 1:30pm at Bhawal Badre Alam Government College exam centre. Instead, exams were conducted at nearby schools and colleges.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader was supposed to attend the meeting as the chief guest.
Considering the examinees' sufferings, the meeting had been postponed on instructions of Awami League central committee leaders, said advocate Haris Ahmed, a member of the central committee.
Although the public meeting of the new committee of Gazipur Awami League had been postponed, the examinations were held at the changed locations, said Prof Jerina Sultana of the government college.
The exam venues were changed on request from the college principal.
“The decision was made after talking to National University vice-chancellor, exam controller and the people concerned," Principal Jerina said, adding that the authority had given permission for the meeting on the college premises after receiving an application from Gazipur AL in this regard.
