Once a bass guitarist in a rock band

Jubayedur Rahim

Jubayedur Rahim played bass in a teen metal band that had small gigs in the capital in the mid-2000s. But before the band was offered to perform at a concert in India in 2006, he was fired by other members as his addiction stood in the way of his performance.

Remembering those days, a band member who is now a popular musician, told The Daily Star that Rahim's mother died when he was young. He had a troubled relationship with his father and stepmother.

“I hate my dad,” the musician said quoting Rahim, now aged about 27.

His name appeared in the media as a missing militant suspect and also in the Rab's list of 262 missing people.

The musician added that Rahim was a spoilt boy at 17. At that time “he started doing whatever drug came his way”.

The youth was a student of European Standard School. Later he went to Malaysia for higher studies, the musician noted.

According to media reports, Rahim grew up in his grandfather's house in Dhaka after his father remarried.

He went to University of Creative Technology in Malaysia, but returned home in 2009 giving up studies.

Quoting his acquaintances in Malaysia, news reports said Rahim frequented parties and clubs in the Southeast Asian country and often missed classes.

After coming back home, Rahim became extremely religious, much to the surprise of his friends and acquaintances.
