The government will import a total of 1.8 lakh tonnes of fertiliser from Saudi Arabia and the UAE. 

The cabinet committee on public purchase today gave clearance to the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) to import the fertiliser.

Of the quantity, BCIC will buy 30,000 tonnes of granular urea from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited in UAE at Tk 189.28 crore.

The state agency will buy 60,000 tonnes of granular urea from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia at Tk 378.56 crore.

Last week, the purchase committee gave clearance to BCIC to import 60,000 tonnes of urea at Tk 392 crore.
