Hefazat chief Ahmad Shafi flown to Dhaka for treatment
Hefazat-e Islam chief Ahmad Shafi was flown to Dhaka from Chattogram today afternoon for medical treatment.
"Allama Shafi was taken to Dhaka by an air ambulance and was admitted to the city's Asgar Ali Hospital," Azizul Haque Islamabadi, central organizing secretary of Hefazat-e Islam, told The Daily Star over telephone.
He also said the 103-year-old Shafi has been suffering from multiple old-age complications including diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
Quoting a doctor at the Asgar Ali Hospital, Azizul Haque said Ahmad Shafi's physical condition is stable at the moment.
Ahmad Shafi is the rector of Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Hathazari, Chattogram and also the chairman of the Bangladesh Qawmi Madrasah Education Board.
