Two people fined Tk 28 lakh for cutting hill in Chattogram

The Department of Environment (Chattogram) today fined two people Tk 28 lakh for illegally cutting through a portion of a hill, locally known as Greenledge Bank hill, in Askar Dighirpar area in Chattogram.

The two were fined after a hearing on the matter at the DoE office in Khulshi, Mia Mahmudul Haque, deputy director of DoE told our staff correspondent.

Mahmudul said the two flattened around 28,000 square feet of hill for construction purpose but did not take any approval from the concerned authority.

They two have been asked to restore the hill to its original shape and were warned of legal action if they violate DoE orders in future, Mahmudul said.
