JP won’t accept any decision of EC curtailing political parties’ rights
Jatiya Party Secretary General Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu today said JP would not accept any decision taken by the Election Commission that would curtail the rights of political parties or people's voting rights.
The JP secretary general said this following a meeting of the party's co-chairmen at the party chairman's Banani office in Dhaka.
JP chairman and deputy leader of the opposition GM Quader presided over the meeting.
Jatiya Party Senior Co-Chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud, five co-chairmen -- Kazi Firoz Rashid, Ziauddin Ahmed, Syed Abu Hossain Babla, Mujibul Haque Chunnu and Salma Islam -- were present at the meeting.
Bablu briefed media about the outcome of the meeting.
In reply to a question of Election Commission's move to enact a separate law for political party's registration, the JP secretary general said JP won't accept any decision of EC which will curtail rights of political parties.
He said Jatiya Party expects a fair and peaceful environment in the upcoming by-elections.
"We want the Election Commission to function independently as a constitutional body," he said.
Jatiya Party will support EC in organising a free, fair and competitive elections.
He said Jatiya Party wants such election that encourages voters to exercise their franchise.
Bablu said Jatiya Party's candidates will remain in the field till the last moment.
