Language movement hero Mirza Mazharul Islam passes away
Language movement veteran Professor Dr Mirza Mazharul Islam died at a hospital in Dhaka this morning. He was 96.
Mazharul breathed his last around 9:00am while undergoing treatment at Birdem General Hospital, our Tangail correspondent reports.
He was awarded with the Ekushey Padak in 2018 for his special contribution to the country's language movement.
He was a student of the first batch (1985-1986) at Dhaka Medical College. He was the president of the Society of Surgeons of Bangladesh (SOSB) in the 1982-1983 session.
Born on January 1, 1927, Professor Mirza Mazharul hailed from Agcharan village in Kalihati under Tangail district.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held after Zohr prayers at the Birdem hospital today, his nephew Mirza Tofazzal Hossain told our correspondent.
He will be buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard in Dhaka later in the day, he said.
