A total of 20,039 under trial prisoners, including 246 minors, were released from jails after they secured bail from virtual courts across the country in last 11 working days.

Supreme Court Spokesman Md Saifur Rahman in a statement today said the subordinate courts have disposed of total 2,728 bail petitions in different criminal cases during virtual hearing and granted bail to 1,395 under trial prisoners yesterday.

The regular activities of courts including the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court remain suspended due to ongoing rapid surge of Covid-19 infection.
