HC wants to know names of those exempted from ACC’s inquiry proceedings in 5 months
The High Court today wanted to know names of those who were cleared from the Anti-Corruption Commission's inquiry into corruption allegations in five months before its (ACC) former chairman Iqbal Mahmood retired on March 10.
The court ordered the ACC to submit a report on the details including names and addresses of the corruption suspects, who were exempted from its inquiry proceedings, to it by April 11.
The ACC has been asked to mention in the report on which grounds they were given impunity from the inquiry.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim came up with the order on a suo moto (voluntary) move following a report published on the daily Inqilab on March 14 under a headline "Dudoke Anusandhan Banijjyya" (Inquiry business in ACC).
According to the report, the then ACC chairman Iqbal Mahmood exempted more than 200 persons and organisations from corruption allegations in five months
Today, the HC ordered the reporter concerned of the Inqilab, who made the report, to submit the documents and evidence on which he prepared the report, before this court by April 11.
At the same time, the HC bench wanted to know the explanation from the authorities concerned of Sadharan Bima Corporation (SBC) about a report published on the daily Prothom Alo on March 16 under a headline "10 bochor dhore jaliati, 26cr taka attoshaat (forgery for 10 years, Tk 26 crore embezzled)".
The HC also asked the reporter concerned of the Prothom Alo, who made report, to submit the documents on which he prepared the news item, before this court by April 11.
The HC bench passed the orders after Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik placed the newspapers, which published the reports, before it for necessary directives.
