Narcotics case: Court frames charges against ex-Jubo League leader Khalid

A Dhaka court today framed charges against former Jubo League leader Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan in two cases filed under the Narcotics Control and Special Powers act.

Khalid, now in jail, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Judge Md Robiul Alam of the Dhaka Metroplan Special Tribunal-4 read out the charges to him.

The judge fixed June 1 for starting the trial.

The case was filed with Motijheel Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act, on charges of possessing 190 pieces of Yaba while the other case was filed under the Special Powers Act with Gulshan Police Station for possessing a significant amount of foreign currencies.

In October last year, police pressed charges against Khalid in the cases.

On February 26 last year, the same court framed charges against Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan in another case filed with Gulshan police for possessing 585 yaba pills.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Khalid from his Gulshan residence on September 18, 2019.

Police seized one shotgun, two pistols, 57 rounds of shotgun bullets, 53 rounds of pistol bullets, and 585 Yaba pills from his residence.

After his arrest, police raided his Motijheel office and seized 190 more pieces of Yaba.

Later, five cases, including a money laundering case, were filed against Khalid with Gulshan and Motijheel police stations.
