A total of 211 minors accused in criminal cases got released from jail on bail granted by virtual courts concerned during the last eight working days.

With them, a total of 18,649 under-trial prisoners have been released from jails after virtual courts granted them bail across the country during this last 10 working days, Supreme Court Spokesman Md Saifur Rahman said in a statement today.

He, however, did not mention how many people including minors are now in custody.

Meanwhile, a total of 33,523 bail petitions were disposed of during this period, he added.

The regular activities of courts across the country including the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court remain suspended due to ongoing rapid surge of Covid-19 infections.                   

Earlier, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain issued directives for the courts about dealing with urgent cases virtually through using information and communication technology during the ongoing closure.
