5 things to learn from Dominic Toretto

We have all heard of the Fast and Furious saga even if we did not watch all the movies. Dominic Toretto or Dom, played by Vin Diesel, is no stranger to us either. While he played the role of a person engaged in crime, there are quite a few lessons that we can learn from the character that he plays.

So, here are some life lessons from the fictional character, Dominic Toretto.

Family comes first

The series shows the importance of family in various ways but Dominic Toretto is seen to stand by his family even if his family goes against him.
When his wife fired a gun at him in Fast and Furious 6, Dom still believes that Letty is worth saving even if it meant risking himself. He sends Mia and Brian away for their own safety, despite meaning that he would have to stay away from his sister.

Rivalry can be a good thing

While nobody wants to have rivals during a race, rivals can also bring out the best in you and push you to reach your potential. We can see that when Brian O' Conner, an undercover police officer, comes back and races Dom after the first movie and Brian almost beats Toretto. However, Dom pushes his skills and uses his experiences and wins the race anyway, meaning, Brian helped bring out the best in Dom even though they were rivals.

Winning is winning

The famous line by Toretto, "It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning" reminds us that the magnitude of the victory should not matter, what matters is the final result. As long as you win, be it a race or in life, nobody will remember if you won by an inch or a mile, what they will remember is that you won.

One quarter mile at a time

As Dom said in Fast and Furious 1, "I live my life a quarter mile at a time."  You should always live in the moment and not stress too much about the past or the future. This line reminds us to enjoy the present and not let the worries of tomorrow burden our today. After all, we do not know our final destination or the path that will lead us there so there is no point in worrying about it.

Leave the past in the past

Dom constantly reminds us that whatever has happened in the past should be left there and not affect the present. Previous decisions and actions should not affect our actions or decisions in the present. When Brian owns up to what happened with Letty, admitting that her "death" was his fault and apologised to Dom, we see how they leave the past in the past and Dom forgives Brian and welcomes him back to the family.
