BARK Air: Where Dogs Skip the Crate and Take Flight
Have you ever thought of going on tour with your best paw pal, but then remember you don't want to put your precious dog in a crate? Well, there is a saying necessity is the mother of invention. People feel comfort and connect deeply with their four-legged friends, and failing to travel with their furry friends is stressful for both owner and pet. A handful of airlines does allow you to fly with your dog next to you, however, BARK Air went beyond that and decided to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience.
They have built an airline to fly dogs up from the ground. Once you book your flight, a BARK Air concierge will contact you to collect information about your dog and travel plans to provide their best services.
On the day of your flight, the paw passenger and their owner will arrive at the airport an hour before their boarding time. Once done with security screening and a proper check-in process — avoiding crates or long tense lines, a BARK Air staff will welcome all pups and help them settle into their experience through interacting with them at the gate and dog-centric cabin preparation.
This sounds like a scene out of an Airbud movie, but this can be a real experience for your dogs if you want!
Gulfstream G5s is the plane flown and to make sure you and your dog are comfortable, the flight is never booked to its full capacity. The cabin will be prepped with calming aids such as pheromone, music, warm lavender-scented refreshment towels, and other comforts to help each dog feel settled. This is relaxing for both you and your flight companion. The staff will also have a pet emergency bag filled with calming treats, leashes, poop bags, and more will be provided at the gate.
Once onboard, dogs will be served beverages, and they can choose from multiple options: water, bone broth, and more. They also do not experience any ear pressure which is commonly caused by cabin pressure. In addition, several BARK Air treats, snacks, and surprises will be part of the flight.
BARK Air currently offers one-way and round-trip flights between New York and LA as well as New York and London, with more routes to be added soon. Bark Air is also aware they are a luxury experience as of now and are working on becoming more available to the general public.
