Located 60 km south of Kishoreganj district town, Austagram is a haor enclosed upazilla, essentially a large wetland surrounded by water. The people of haor engage in widespread fishing, thanks to an abundance of various kinds of fishes in the water bodies.

Kutub Shah Mosque

The five domed Kutub Shah Mosque in Austagram is an amazing specimen of Bengali architecture. According to archaeologists, this mosque was built in the 16th century. The mosques distinctive feature is a crescent shaped terracotta pattern, which showcases beautiful motifs of the regions talented artisans. The natural curvature of the mosque is infused with the Bengali two storey house models of the 16th century, with the mosque still standing the shore of a wide bay with an open courtyard.

Isha Khan's Jangalbari fort

Located in Jangalbari village under Karimganj upazila, the 16th century ruler Isha Khan took over the fort after defeating the then local ruler of this area. The fort gives of an impression of being situated in an island thanks to the surrounding waterways. The waterways are so deep that it needs to be crossed by boat even in the dry season. Though only scattered potsherds and a few low mound of the fort exists day, visiting this heritage site will make you wonder about just how significant this fort was in its heyday.

Chandrabati temple

Chandrabati, regarded as the first female poet of Bengali literature, requested to set up two temples which can be found today in Katcharipara village, situated only 6km away from the town. There are two temples there with the bigger one octagonal in shape, with both displaying intricate terracotta works on the walls that is still quite well preserved today. The temples showcase the diversity that is culturally prevalent in Kishoreganj.

Situated at Nikli Haor, the all-weather road directly connects three upazillas of Itna, Mithamain and Austagram by land. This nearly 30 km long road has become a favourite travel destination for tourists as the road looks absolutely stunning, especially during the rainy season.
