Chawkbazar’s iftar fiesta (video)

Altogether, it is a different colour about Chawkbazar when it comes to the month of Ramadan and you can smell the food from quite a distance.

The long tradition of selling “Shahi” iftar items in Old Dhaka has become quite renowned. “Shahi” or not – one thing is for sure that the food looks just exquisite.

There are chicken roasts, lamb leg roasts, Koyel bird roasts, Jali kabab, Shahi jilapi, Tikka kabab, halim, Bati kabab and of course the namewise extravaganza “Boro Baper Polay Khay”.

And look-wise, it’s a complete makeover to Chawkbazar in Ramadan – with these makeshift shops draping the whole of the area in colours, smell and the hawks of the sellers.
