DANCING IN THE RAIN

Does the monsoon weather strike the romantic chord in you? Does it feel like the appropriate time to catch up with old friends, have some coffee while discussing lines from Tagore? If it does, then you are definitely a pluviophile like the other few billion mortal beings on earth.  

This special season accounts for a lot of things, including an extra bit of love for the favourites, unplanned visits to dreamy destinations and unruly amounts of comfort foods dismissing the guilt conscience once and for all. 

What about the wardrobe- you ask? Surely this must also have some effect in this stunning time of the year. Of course, it does and here we'd be reviewing one of the most romantic monsoon wears; the tie–dye prints.

From standard patterns such as the spiral and the marble effect to beautiful pieces of art work in exotic names like the shibori, tritik, ikat and mudmee; there's simply no stopping the innovative design technique.

Warez, a popular fashion designer of the recent times, shares his ideas with us on this note. "I love working with tie-dye, it's the perfect attire for the monsoon weather. I always stress on making my designs extra colourful to complement the overcast," he says.

We all know that summer is the time that encourages most of us to hit the beach.But have you ever tried going there on a rainy day? If you haven't yet,then definitely you have been missing out on one of the best feelings in the world. 

Warez seems to agree with us, "My designs are mostly fusion wear, with maxi dresses and beach tunics in natural dyes and pure cotton. I have concentrated mostly on the silhouette, making it flowy, free and fabulous – encouraging the ascent of the hidden romantic," admits the designer.

Finally, tie-dye, a technique discovered in the pre-Columbian era of Peru did not become 'all-the-rage' till the late '60s and early '70s when famous rockstars like Janis Joplin and John Sebastian popularised it by wearing their signature style psychedelic prints. The infamous prints complemented the era fantastically well. 

Those, are the stories of an era bygone; today tie-dye techniques have come a long way till its inception days and can be fabricated in hundreds of different types of designs reflecting our diverse moods; be it the romantic of the rainy season or the sultry diva of the summer.
