Many of us spend hours here, flopped on cushions with a book on weekends, or whispering our woes in a friend's ear. With a steaming cup of aromatic coffee resting within easy reach, placed on none other than a favourite coffee or side table, we make the best out of our lazy Fridays.

These little tables and the corners breathe life and are integral to the spirit of a living space. They also present the perfect scope to display one's unique ideas as well as pursuits. 

Flea markets are often great sources of tidbits that can be combined to create the perfectly eccentric tables. There are a lot of things that can be recycled into coffee and side tables, the only prerequisite being that we somehow harmonise it with the rest of the room. 

Following a specific colour theme, or simply arranging the lights to focus on quirky centrepieces - old stools, vintage storage trunks and cooking pots, metallic buckets, large paint tubs, metal bins or used crates, etc. can all serve as a different base for a coffee table or corner piece. 

An old sewing machine table can be converted into a quaint side piece, neatly stuffed with a lot of Zen-inspiring pieces, with statues of Buddha in different sizes, and potted plants to match. A piece of art, in the same tint as that of the sewing table, can be placed on the wall bringing a unity to the whole display. Place a wicker lamp shade to add a flea-market charm.  

Many of you may have a large bronze cooking pots handed down as an heirloom and with some ingenuity these can be transformed into unique pieces for the living room. 

It can be the focal piece with a circular piece of glass serving as the top. To maintain homogeneity of colours, one can opt for pieces, all with earthy reddish tones to bring cohesiveness and a simple appeal to the whole ensemble.  

To serve as food for thought, you can easily select a large, earthen, cylindrical pot as a side table, paired with a large cuboid earthy lamp. On top of the earthen pot, place an intricately painted colourful round tray, with another smaller tray on top, to make a central space. Over the smaller tray a large teacup can be placed, housing a leafy plant to bring nature's touch to the corner. 

In a sitting room, the central piece should be a comfortable couch, upholstered in a subtle shade that can blend in with a wide array of home decor ideas. 

In an arrangement, a tall potted plant can be used to serve as a backdrop to an art piece, all placed on a bare wooden foldable stool. A lamp just adds to the whole creation, and can be functional as well. 

The central coffee table perhaps needs to be the most charming piece of the whole room. One should put some thought before arranging this pieces as it will be a strong reflection of the taste of the people living in the house. 

One can never go wrong with an antique trunk painted off white, which can serve as a neutral base. The pieces on top can have a decided "tea" theme, with a multitude of tea pots, in metal, china and terracotta, placed in the corners, as well as teacups and cookie jars. One or two of the teapots can be used to house plants, and placed diagonally, opposite to each other. 

The book corner can be perfectly matching the name, a large tower of magazines, neatly piled on top of each other and weighed down by and antique clothes iron. Beside the 'magazine tower', place a cutesy wicker basket, and behind these, a tall lamp, with a soft and subdued light.
