The basics of recycling
Who doesn't want a beautiful home? Every individual has their own sense of style which helps them beautify their homes according to their taste. And to keep one's home clean and pretty, it is important to get rid of old clothes and accessories that are no longer used. That is when you can start recycling your old clothes into various decorative and useful items for your home.
Usually clothes are something that we have a lot of in our possession, where many pieces are never worn or are simply left out because of having too many of them. Maybe it is time to bring out those old, unused clothes from the back of your closet and up-cycle them to make something beautiful for your home and give it a makeover.
PILLOWS
This is one of the most common items that comes to mind first, and are useful at the same time. Gone are the days when our grandmothers used to only stick to conventional colours and patterns when it came to these décor pieces. Now it is all about colours and shapes and prints. Bright colours and bold prints add a different statement to your home. Those old, unused clothes like the orna or a sari can be easily cut into pieces and used to embroider a pillow. An old favourite t-shirt can also be shaped and cut into a throw-pillow.
There are the traditional throw-pillows, which are super comfy and look amazing. These can be made easily, but if you want a little more drama, then go for ruffle rose pillow as they look fantastic. These are not very difficult to make, and an old sweater would be perfect for them. There are many YouTube videos that you can check out to see how to make these pillows.
TABLE MATS AND RUNNERS
Decorating tables has always been a favourite for the ladies of the house; colour-coordinating cutlery and runners and mats are an absolute must. An old sari can easily be cut to make a runner and matching place-mats that give a fresh look to your dining arena.
WALL-HANGINGS
Adorning the walls with beautiful paintings or photographs gives an artistic look to the house. Why not try something more casual by framing an old t-shirt you have, maybe one with sentimental value – the one you wore on the last day of high-school which bears handwritten quotes from your friends, or the one that you wore at your reunion. You cannot throw these t-shirts out due to the emotional attachment, so why not cut and set them in a picture frame and hang them on your wall?
We all have those extra traditional katan saris that we no longer wear. Why not cut the anchal part out and frame them with a nice wooden frame? It would definitely look gorgeous and add a fancy look to your wall.
LAMPS SHADES
Almost all houses have lamps in them, and our mothers usually prefer light colour shades like cream and beige. These colours are usually reserved for classier, everlasting lamp shades. Why not add some more colour and cover the lamp shade with any of your old favourite pieces of clothing, like the vintage floral-printed orna or the lace sari that you no longer wear? Lamp shades in floral prints and laces would definitely add an elegant look to your house.
These are easy decorative pieces that you can make with the old clothes hanging in your closet. They will surely give a fresh look to your house, so get your gear up, clean out the closet and start making crafting!
