Trance of the Trans-Siberian
The Trans-Siberian Railway, the longest in the world, stretches for about 9000 kilometres across China, Mongolia, Siberia and Russia. It is known to offer one of the greatest train journeys as passengers travel through approximately 10 different time zones and catch sight of entrancing scenery and heritage sites that enable them to have the experience of a lifetime. The Trans-Siberia Photo Exhibition, sponsored by Dhaka Bank and organised by Discovery Tours & Logistic, delivered nothing short of that enchanting and unforgettable experience presented through the photographs that the team of 15 travellers captured during the first tour of its kind to take place from Bangladesh.
The inauguration ceremony took place around noon on the 5th of May, 2017 at the Patio Hall of Gulshan Club. A distinct crowd of elite guests graced the event with their presence. Md. Zahirul Alam Bhuiyan, founder and CEO of Discovery Tours & Logistic opened the event with a brief speech, remarking that the fortnight-long trip provides a spectacular opportunity to observe the changing cultures and natural scenes as the train crosses different regions and the team members who travel there together become friends for life through sharing these marvelous moments with each other.
Soon after, the Managing Director and CEO of Dhaka Bank, Syed Mahabubur Rahman, was invited on stage. “We are delighted to be a part of such an activity which encourages people to go on trips that can widen their hearts and perspectives and refresh their minds in today's busy world,” Rahman said, and promised that Dhaka Bank's doors are always open in an effort to provide sufficient financial help to tourists who may be interested in such a tour. The honourable Chief Guest of the event, Abdul Matlub Ahmed, President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries and Chairman of Nitol-Niloy Group, was the last to take the podium. He admitted that he has been keen on the renowned railway tour from a long time and he deemed the exhibition truly inspiring. “Count me in for the next tour in July,” he declared jovially and invited all travel enthusiasts to join the wagon.
As the speeches concluded, the guests and visitors proceeded to view the gallery lined with vivid photographs from the extraordinary tour. S.M. Emdadul Islam, Director of Babylon Group, who was one of the travellers, has his own travelogue based on the trip and was thrilled to share his experience on the grand railway journey which started from Beijing, China and ended in Moscow, Russia. “Lake Baikal – blue as the sky – was one of my favourite attractions,” he confessed. The team had a final stopover at St. Petersburg where they captured the soulful beauty of archaic cathedrals, museums and the bold Baltic Sea.
Strolling along the gallery, we gazed at the photos of the majestic Kremlin, picturesque Krasnoyarsk city, the mountainous Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar and the Great Wall of China among others which depicted more on the cultural, ethnic and religious values of different societies of the regions. All in all, every photograph in the exhibition seemed to elucidate a tale of the panoramic gracefulness of evergreen nature, invincible heritage and traversing cultures and capture the souls of the travelers as well as the visitors viewing the photographs.
