InterContinental Dhaka unveils the biggest Christmas tree cake in Dhaka

To start the holiday season and celebrate Christmas in the grandest of manners, Hotel InterContinental Dhaka has unveiled the biggest Christmas tree cake in the history of Bangladesh. The 16-feet high cake was presented in a ribbon-cutting ceremony that took place in the hotel's Café Social on Wednesday, 21 December. The 12-tier structure that is partly cake weighs over 1800 pounds and took the pastry team around 15-18 days to make. The cake is plum-flavoured and has been embellished with various traditional Christmas decorations.

"Dhaka is the heart and soul of pop culture and InterContinental has been the epicenter of music and art for decades. We wanted to carry forward this tradition by doing something very different for Christmas this year," stated Ashwani Nayar, General Manager of InterContinental.

He further disclosed to us that the cake has more to it than meets the eye as it is also a symbol of sustainability.

"We are against the cutting of trees and the use of plastic trees since they are non-biodegradable. So, the idea was to introduce something more innovative, more appealing, and most importantly, more sustainable. Not only did we want to uphold the spirit of Christmas but also spread the message of making more sustainable choices. We have more plans like this for the future as we move towards more environmentally friendly practices," he elaborated.

In addition to the cake, the entire hotel has been adorned in Christmas elements including traditional decoration pieces, photo booths, and gingerbread houses.

This was only the first event from a host of events that InterContinental Dhaka has planned for Christmas and New Year's Eve. Others include buffet brunch and buffet dinner at Elements for BDT 5500 and BDT 6999 net per person respectively, Christmas BBQ dinner with live music at their poolside open-air restaurant Aqua Deck for BDT 5000 net per person with live music, and an exclusive five-course Christmas dinner at Amber Room fine dining restaurant at BDT 8000 net per person.

These offers are available on 24 and 25 December and BOGO is applicable on selected cards.
