Whiskers this November
Are you one of those fortunate gentlemen who have been blessed with abundant facial hair? Or, are you one of those unfortunate people who are naturally 'goatee'!
Take a deep breath before you let your mind wander off, because this is not about beards of any sort. A new campaign has begun which contributes immensely to the saving of lives by allowing you to take up any avatar you like; by simply growing a moustache.
It was incepted in 2003 by a group of 30 valiant men in Melbourne, Australia who simply decided on growing a moustache throughout the month of November, to bring this dying trend back in fashion. They realised how good of a conversation starter the moustache was and decided to affiliate it with raising awareness about men's mental and health issues such as prostate and testicular cancer, and depression and suicide.
Soon the number of participants grew and words of "Movember" spread throughout the world to reach more than 5.2 million people, successfully managing to raise over $900 million for this cause.
The dangers of prostate and testicular cancer became known to people along with the rising issues of depression and suicide. Moreover, the funds raised helped start new projects to tackle these health issues.
You must all be wondering how growing a moustache can save a life? Well, the people who will be practicing this art of manliness will not only manage to look sleek and handsome but will be sporting a fantastic conversation starter.
When someone comes up to you and compliments your moustache, that will be your cue to jump right in and tell them why you grew it.
Your moustache just helped that person know about the growing risk of depression and prostate cancer. What happens next is that the person might go for a check-up to the doctor or maybe talk about the severe depression he has been suffering through for years and could not find anyone who was willing to listen. Such is how you can create awareness through a Stach!
November is here; shave your face clean and grow, and groom a handlebar or something as simple as the magnum throughout the month and look dapper as ever. Donate the money you would have otherwise spent on purchasing a shaving cream, after-shave, or something as simple as a razor.
You can also organise events to raise funds for the cause and of course talk about the rising issues of prostate and testicular cancer and of depression and suicide.
Although there is no initiative taken in Bangladesh for Movember, if you want to be a part of this movement then go to www.movember.com and singup as they take in participants from all over the world.
The month of November is upon us and so is the 'Mo movement.' Thus, regardless of your state of facial hair, take part in one of the biggest and hairiest movements of the year to grow a much-needed health and mental awareness.
Be a Mo Bro and save a life.
