Coffee — Blessing and curse

For me, the only reason I could possibly think of waking up in the morning is the fact that there will be coffee waiting for me. Whether you've taught your trusty butler (in my case, Raju Mama) to make the perfect brew, or heading over to the nearest cafe, coffee is a must.

In Milan, the fashion capital of the world, and possibly, the coffee capital, the International Coffee Organisation officially launched the first International Coffee Day on 1 October, 2015. And guess what, its today. Since its launch, people from all over the world have come up with creative, impressive, innovative ways of using coffee. It is no longer just the traditional cappuccinos and lattes, or even Vietnamese or Turkish coffee anymore. I mean there's so many desserts that include coffee, like a good tiramisu, or a brownie, or a cake, and for sure, ice cream!

Speaking of, if you ever have a chance, do make sure you try an Affogato. It will change your life. And for those of you who like cold coffee, you should go and try the nitro cold brew. Comes from a tap, feels like chilled heaven running down your throat.

Let me be the first to say that when it comes to coffee, I'm all for it, but I do try and make sure as much as I can to buy fair trade coffee whenever I can. The coffee industry is currently the worst ever for the environment. According to a study published by BioScience, currently, the world's coffee farms are more harmful to the environment than ever before because of our generations obsession with it. According to the study, coffee in both Brazil and Vietnam are being grown in direct sunlight, rather than under the shade of a canopy of trees. This, in simpler terms, means that farmlands are cutting down trees, which provide a habitat for native wildlife and other natural resources to grow more coffee.

All I am saying at this point is that as much as I love coffee, we should probably love our planet more, and try to at least do our best to preserve whatever we have left of it before we completely destroy it. We should be conscious and cannot afford to be ignorant. Think about it; what would you rather save, the earth or coffee?
