Two Pakistani citizens were held with 10.2kg heroin worth around Tk 10 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday.
The arrestees were Harun, 55, and Alla Baksh, 45. Acting on a tip-off, members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) challenged the people after they arrived at the airport around 1:30pm, and recovered six packets containing the illicit drug, said a press release.
Harun came to Bangladesh 17 times and Alla Baksh five times. Police confirmed it checking their passports. A case was filed with Airport Police Station in this connection.
The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives appointed an administrator and a chief area demarcation officer to Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) on Tuesday, about one month and 10 days after the gazette was published.
The newly appointed administrator is Md Shah Kamal, additional secretary of the ministry; while the chief area demarcation officer, appointed for dividing the ward and the demarcation of the ward area, is Md Nurul Islam, deputy commissioner of Gazipur.
Kamal, earlier, had served as the administrator of Narayanganj City Corporation.

A Chemistry professor of Chittagong University (CU) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from his bedroom ceiling at his residence in CU campus area yesterday evening.
The deceased is Didaul Islam Chowdhury, 60.
Quoting family members, CU police sources said Didarul went to his bedroom for saying Maghrib prayers and locked the door. Later, the members saw him hanging by a rope when they looked through the window.
Police broke open the door and recovered the body around 7:00pm.
