CRP sponsored walk held

The Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) organised its annual sponsored walk at Rabindra Sarobar in the capital's Dhanmondi yesterday.
In the programme, about 80 disabled people, on wheelchairs, completed five laps around Rabindra Sarobar with the slogan “Break the barriers to equal access, walk towards an inclusive world”.
CRP organised the walk to raise funds for the organisation. The registered participants donated a certain amount of money for each complete lap.
Epyllion Group, Pepsi and Queen's University sponsored the programme.

Obituary

Razia Arsjad, mother of Dr M Iqbal Arslan, secretary general of Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Medical Association, died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University at 11:00am yesterday. She was 83.
The medical association condoled the death of Razia and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Khadija Begum

Khadija Begum, mother of Muftee Salauddin, Patuakhali correspondent of the daily Samakal and Rtv, died yesterday at her home in Galachipa upzila. She was 80.
She was buried at her home village in Rangabali upazila after two namaz-e-janazas.
She left behind three sons to mourn her death.

Death anniversary


Today is the sixth death anniversary of Reza A Karim Choudhury Chunnu Miah, a Language Movement veteran and Liberation War organiser.
He was also the founder of Borhanuddin College, Bhola.
Chunnu was involved in the Language Movement while studying in Dhaka College. He served one month in jail for bringing out procession defying section 144 in front of Assembly Hall on February 20, 1952.
He was elected Awami League lawmaker in 1970.
After the independence, Chunnu became a Gono Parishad member. He was also elected Borhanuddin upazila chairman in 1991.

Train derails in Kushtia

A shuttle train derailed near Khoksa Railway Station in Kushtia yesterday.
At least five passengers were injured in stampedes as they scrambled for getting down from the train during the incident.
Shamsul Alam, the station master, said three bogies out of nine of the Poradah-bound train from Rajbari ran off the railway tracks at about 11:00am.
Train services were suspended for nine hours on Goalondo-Khulna and Goalondo-Rajshahi routes due to the derailment.

Abdul Jalil to undergo surgery today

Abdul Jalil, an Awami League lawmaker and former general secretary of the party, will undergo heart bypass surgery at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore today.
The senior AL leader was taken to hospital after becoming sick on February 25.
Abdul Jalil has long been suffering from different health complications.
