Singer Nolok handed over to police for rowdy behaviour

Biman officials at Sylhet Osmani International Airport yesterday handed over two passengers, including Close up-1 star Nolok Babu, to airport police for their misbehavior.
Being intoxicated, Nolok and Amir Ahmed misbehaved with an air hostess and other passengers in a flight that took off from London for Sylhet and Dhaka, said immigration police. Filing of a case was under process with Airport Police Station at the time of filing this report.

Strike called for March 3 at Sust

Bangladesh Students' Union and Bangladesh Chhatra League yesterday called upon students of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) to abstain from all academic activities on March 3, demanding capital punishment for all war criminals and its execution as early as possible.
Their other demands are: banning of Jamaat-e-Islami as the party was involved in war crimes; trying the culprits responsible for vandalising Shaheed Minars and torching the national flag across the country; and seizing and bringing all wealth of Jamaat-Shibir under the state ownership.
The demands were declared in separate press conferences.

Man dies from burn injuries

A man, who sustained burn injuries from a gas cylinder explosion in Sylhet on Sunday, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday.
The deceased Fazal Ahmed, 24, hails from village Ronkeli.
Four people were injured as the cylinder exploded in a shop in Golapganj upazila of Sylhet.

Muggers shoot police

Unidentified muggers shot and injured a sub-inspector of the Detective Branch of police in Bhogra area of Gazipur Sadar upazila yesterday.
Mohammad Hasan, 40, with a bullet-wound on his chin, was shifted to the capital's Apollo Hospitals from Gazipur Sadar Hospital.
He was shot when he and his team, during their every day patrols, tried to catch the muggers, who were trying to mug a man before Borsha Cinema Hall. The muggers escaped in their own car, said police.

Prisoners' ward opens at CMCH

A separate ward for prisoner patients was opened at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) yesterday.
Medical treatment facilities for five patients will be available at the ward, said CMCH Director Brig Gen Khondakar Shahidul Ghani.
On an average, seven to eight prisoners undergo treatment in different wards a day now, he said.
Chittagong Medical College Principal Prof Dr Selim Muhammad Jahangir and leaders of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Chittagong, among others, were present at the inaugural ceremony.

Fire guts seven cars in Ctg port

Seven new imported cars, estimated to be worth around Tk 35 lakh, were burnt in a fire that broke out at a customs jetty in Chittagong Port yesterday.
The fire originated from a glowing cigarette butt around 6:00am, said fire service sources.
A unit from Bandar Fire Station rushed to the spot and doused the fire after an hour long effort.
