Miscreants shoot postmaster, snatch Tk 50 lakh in Tangail

A group of miscreants snatched Tk 50 lakh from a postmaster after shooting him in the leg at Kalihati upazila of Tangail today.

The incident took place in Agcharan area under the upazila around 2:00pm, our Tangail correspondent reports quoting Shafiqul Islam, additional superintendent of police in Tangail.

Mujibur Rahman, postmaster of Bolla Post Office, collected Tk 50 lakh from Kalihati Post Office around 1:30pm and was returning to his post office on a motorcycle --accompanied by his colleague, the ASP said quoting Mujibur.

As they reached Agcharan area, three youths --also on a motorbike-- intercepted Mujibur and shot him in the leg, snatching a bag from him containing Tk 50 lakh, the police official said.

On information, police rushed to the spot and sent the injured postmaster to Kalihati Upazila Health Complex and later he was shifted to Tangail General Hospital as his condition deteriorated, he said.

Police have started investigation into the matter to bring the miscreants to book, the police officer said.
