A microbiologist by profession, Mohammad Moniruzzaman first felt the enchantment of photography in 2006. “I started doing it just to capture my moments with friends and family. But once my interest reached its peak, I realised there's no going back.”
Moniruzzaman is known for his stupendous work with the camera both here and abroad. He has won a number of reputed national and international awards which include winning the Celebrating Life Photography Competition twice, in 2008 and 2010 respectively. He was a Gold Prize winner in the Yonhap International Press Photo Awards for which he attended the prize giving ceremony in the UN Headquarters in New York. He also worked as a contributor and curator for Getty Images, an American stock photo agency and is currently being represented by Corbis Images.
Moniruzzaman is one of the founding members of Bangladesh Photographers (BP), the first online photography community in Bangladesh. “BP inspires photographers to develop their vision. As per our motto, we share, we care, we inspire,” he says. “Through different photography exhibitions, field trips and workshops, we try to motivate young, aspiring photographers.”
Moniruzzaman's website, 'Talkative Pictures', is a display of his techniques, skills, experience and passion for photography. “I want to work on aspects that are relevant to globalisation. The world is a big melting pot, and it is interesting to observe the mix of diverse ideas, cultures and thoughts. I want to explore these ideas through different media of visual communication.”

Besides photography, Moniruzzaman is also making strides in his academic life. Graduating Summa Cum Laude from the department of Microbiology from Dhaka University, he is now appointed as a full time lecturer there. He is also working on obtaining his PhD in Microbial Ecology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, United States. Studying, teaching and also pursuing his passion, Moniruzzaman doesn't let any hamper the other. “Balancing profession and passion is actually not that complicated especially when you have a soft spot for both. But I will prioritise my profession over photography any given day.”
