Pirojpur villages beaming with guava hope: WITH the passage of time, guava cultivation has spread widely at four unions of Pirojpur’s Nesarabad and Jhalakathi sadar upazila though it began from a village at Nesarabad. Now the cultivation of this seasonal fruit has given the two upazilas special identity countrywide. Besides creating business centers at different areas of the unions, they are attracting visitors from different parts of the country from June to August every year during the harvesting season of the fruit and it is increasing for the last few years. The fruits grow around a dozen of villages of Nesarabad’s Atghar Kuriana and Jalabari unions and 15 villages of Kirtipasha and Nabagram unions of Jhalakathi sadar upazila. The fruits are sold to the wholesale buyers from different parts of the country at least one dozen floating markets where growers carry them by small boats. Of them Kuriana, Zindakathi, Adamkathi, Bhimruli and Ata are well known.
