50 NAMES OF GREY … This brown bird, commonly known as the Grey Francolin, has some fascinating names in places they are native to -- mainly plains and drier parts of South Asia. It was formerly named the Grey Partridge, while it is widely known as “teetar” in India, owing to its loud and repetitive calls “Ka-tee-tar...tee-tar”. It is sometimes also referred to as the “chicken bird” in other places due the resemblance. The small bird is mostly sedentary and feeds mainly on seeds, grains as well as insects, particularly termites and beetles. While the IUCN has listed the bird in the “least concerned” category, hunting still remains a big threat to the Grey Francolin. The photo was taken in Rajshahi. PHOTO: ADNAN HOSSAIN
