A woman crosses the Tejgaon rail tracks with a train approaching from just metres away. Despite a law in place, people take such risks almost every day, often resulting in injuries or deaths, while the authorities remain oblivious. According to Section 124(a) of the Railway Act, 1890, if a person attempts to cross a railway track in any means, with the knowledge of a train approaching, they shall be punished with a fine which may extend to Tk 50. Due to mindless pollution and encroachment, the Kalyanpur Khal is merely a narrow stream with dark coloured water. Illegal gas and waterlines have been pulled over the river to facilitate the nearby slums as a result of which, the canal has been further pushed to obliteration.
