Garbage, mostly vegetable peelings and scraps, are being dumped on the banks of the Buriganga from the nearby wholesale kitchen market in the capital’s Shyambazar area. While these scraps are biodegradable and pose no serious harm to the soil, their unplanned disposal not only pollutes the riverbed but also its water, posing a significant risk to the marine life.
