Motorcyclists illegally driving their vehicles on a footpath in the capital’s Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue yesterday. Careless bikers are often seen hogging the footpaths and hampering pedestrian movement in an attempt to escape the city traffic.

Mohammad Ali, 30, spent much of yesterday afternoon picking the chilli seedlings he had planted on a field in Sylhet’s Bishwanath upazila. While he grows different kinds of paddies and vegetables on his 10-12 bigha of land, he also earns a good amount from selling the seedlings to other farmers in the area and to local markets. When the quality is as good as this year’s, he can make a profit of up to Tk 35,000 per season.

Illegal structures have been set up on the Buriganga near the Lohar Bridge in the capital’s Kamrangirchar. The Dhaka South City Corporation has knocked down illegal structures in some areas to restore and beautify an old channel of the river. But they are yet to carry out such drives in this area. The photo was taken recently.
