On a star-studded occasion in Paris on Monday, Real Madrid and French forward Karim Benzema won the Ballon d’Or, the most prestigious individual award in football. Alongside the forward, Barcelona and Spain forward Alexia Putellas won the women’s Ballon d'Or for the second time in a row. Polish forward Robert Lewandowski won the Gerd Muller award for scoring a record-breaking amount of goals for Bayern Munich last season. Furthermore, Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois won the Lev Yashin trophy for his outstanding performance between the posts for Real Madrid.
