Shahjalal Boli reigns supreme in Jabbarer Boli Khela

Shahjalal Boli of Cumilla reigned supreme as he was announced the winner of the 114th edition of the Jabbarer Boli Khela by the refereeing panel. The event started in 1909 AD by a local merchant Abdul Jabbar Saudagar, to prepare the Chattogram youth for the anti-British movement by keeping them physically fit. Shahjalal, who came up short last year, made his chance count as he put behind the defending champion Tarequl Islam Jibon of Chakariya. “I became the champion two years ago. I was upset about not becoming the champion last time. It feels good to become the champion this time,” Shahjalal told The Daily Star. The Boli Khela (wrestling championship) is part of the Baishakhi Mela, a three-day fair held to observe the first month of the Bangla New Year at the Laldighi Maidan in Chattogram City. It is organised by Abdul Jabbar Smriti Wrestling Competition and Baishakhi Mela Celebration Parishad. The fair includes the traditional Boli Khela (wrestling competition), which will take place on the second day of the fair. Photo: Rajib Raihan
