Workshop on child labour held
A divisional workshop on 'elimination of child labour' was held at Circuit House in the port city on Monday.
Labour and employment ministry with the support of ILO, Unicef and Save the Children, Sweden-Denmark, organized the workshop.
Divisional Commissioner Md Sirajul Haque Khan addressed the workshop as the chief guest with Joint Secretary Md Faijur Rahman of labour and employment ministry in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner Md Fayez Ahmed and Save the Children Sweden-Denmark Country Director Brigid Lundberg were present as the special guests at the programme.
Sirajul in his speech said through sharing experiences, support and coordination between the ministries took the project for eliminating child labour and the non-governmental organisations will play a positive role in implementing the policy.
Around 120 officials from different governmental and non-governmental organisations of Chittagong took part in the workshop.
Seminar on Hepatitis B & C held
A seminar on Hepatitis B and C was held at Premier University in the port city on Monday.
In observance of World Hepatitis Day, the university organised the seminar with a slogan “Hepatitis B & C: Need to know” at its auditorium.
Dean of Faculties Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury spoke at the seminar as the chief guest with Business Study Department Chairman Sujan Kanti Biswas in the chair.
Dr Abdullah AL Mahmud, consultant of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) read out the key-note paper at the seminar.
TCJA observes first anniversary
Television Camera Journalists' Association (TCJA) observed it first anniversary in the port city on Friday.
On the occasion, a discussion and a cultural programme were held on the city's DC hill premises. The programme started with unveiling the cover of its publication “Drishapat”.
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Mohammad Manjur Alam unveil the cover of the publication.
Manjur in his speech said at present time TV camera journalists are also playing important role in strengthening democracy in the country.
Chittagong Press Club (CPC) President Abu Sufian, Metropolitan Journalists' Union President Samsul Haque Haidori, Chittagong Union of Journalists' (CUJ) President Shahidul Alam and Channel-I bureau chief Chowdhury Farid spoke as the special guests.
TCJA President Enamul Haque chaired the function.
Story telling on liberation war held
An event on story telling on the War of Liberation was held in the port city on Tuesday.
On the occasion of inauguration of a year-long project in memory of freedom fighter Shawkat Hafiz Khan Rushni titled 'Sahasi Thikana-71', Chattral Youth Cayare, an organisation working on social issues, arranged the event in the auditorium of AG Church School in the city.
AG Church School Headmistress Jachinta Odhikari inaugurated the event as the chief guest with Advocate Nasir Uddin Chowdhury in the chair.
Saint Mary's School's teacher Sister Mary Santa, Dr Bidhan Mitra, Lion Bipul Baran Lod and Sujit Chowdhury Mintu also spoke at the function.
Projects to develop the city
Mayor M Manjur Alam inaugurated three projects for development of the city on Monday.
The projects are Tk 1.60 crore Halisahar-Borpul Bridge on Mohes Khal and approach road, Tk.95 lakh bridge and approach road in Gayana Chhara area of Pahartali and Tk 80 lakh connecting road from Lucky Hotel to CDA market of Saria Para.
Panel Mayor Mohammed Hossain, councillor Haji Babul Haque and Superintendent Engineer Rafiul Islam were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Mayor said these projects will help reduce traffic jam and remove the waterlogging problem from city.
Reception to best 10 singers
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) accorded a reception to the best ten singers of a competition show “Garba” of private television channel Bangla Vision at Theater Institute of Chittagong (TIC) on Sunday organised for the Readymade Garment (RMG) workers.
Mayor M Manjur Alam was the chief guest at the programme with Councillor Rehena Begum Ranu in the chair.
BGMEA first Vice-president M. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury and Councillor Mohammad Hossain also spoke.
Mayor lauded BGMEA for organising the competition, saying this kind of competition will help develop environment in RMG sector.
Mayor also urged the garments owners to develop environment in the factories to inspire workers.
Laptop fair begins
Kaspersky Laptop and Mobile Fair 2011 began at Yunosco City Center on Friday.
Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr Afsarul Ameen inaugurated the fair. Yunusco City Centre IT Floor Business Committee organised the fair.
The organiser said they are showcasing laptop and mobile sets for the next generation at the fair. “Our first target is to introduce the city dwellers with next generation technology”, they added.
Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, convener of the fair, said they brought the latest version of laptop which has dual touch pad of ACSER Company. Customers also have a lot of interest for latest version of technology, he said.
Abdul Matin, president of fair committee, said laptop business is not doing well since December last. “We are trying to bring a radical change through this fair”, he added.
