Call to stop misuse of energy
Padma Oil Company Ltd, Jamuna Oil Company Ltd, Meghna Petroleum Ltd, Eastern Refinery Ltd and LP Gas Ltd jointly brought out a colourful procession in the city on Tuesday, marking the National Energy Security Day.
The procession was followed by a rally held at Chittagong Press Club (CPC).
Speakers at the rally said energy is the key to national development and it plays the main role in production of all agricultural commodities.
They urged all to extend their hands to stop misuse and smuggling of energy.
Md Sarafuddin Ahmed, Director (Finance) of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), and Managing Director of Meghna Petroleum Ltd Sarif Asrafuzzaman spoke at the rally.

CMCCI launches fair price shop
Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber and Commerce Industry (CMCCI) started selling parboiled rice, sugar, and soybean oil on the CMCCI premises at Agrabad on Sunday.
CMCCI President Kahlilur Rahman inaugurated the shop. CMCCI Vice President Mahbub Chowdhury, Director Jahangir Chowdhury, and MA Malek were present on the occasion.
Metropolitan chamber Assistant Secretary Faisal Abbas said chamber fixed the price of one kg parboiled rice at Tk 24, sugar at Tk 58 and one liter soybean at Tk 115. Every customer can buy as high as five kgs parboiled rice, two kgs sugar and two liters of soybean oil.
This programme will continue till the last day of Ramadan, Faisal added.

National Energy Security Day observed
Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) observed the Nation Energy Security Day in the port city on Tuesday.
To mark the day, a colourful procession carrying festoons and banners paraded the important thoroughfares in the port city.
A rally was also held at Chittagong Press Club (CPC) on the occasion.
KGDCL Managing Director Engineer Md Sanwar Hossain Chowdhury and Company Secretary Chowdhury Ahsan Habib spoke at the rally.
Sanwar in his speech said the government established its ownership in energy sector during the tenure of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after purchasing five gas fields -- Titas, Bakharabad, Habiganj, Koilastila and Rashidpur -- from Shelyel Company.

BSRM hosts Iftar
Bangladesh Steel Re-rolling Mills (BSRM) arranged an Iftar mahfil at King of Chittagong in the port city on Monday.
The well-wishers, officials of the company and leaders of different socio-cultural organisations and business community took part in the Iftar.
BSRM Chairman Ali Hussain Akbarali welcomed the guests at the programme.

Mayor briefs IMED secy
Secretary of Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) Md Habibullah Mazumdar called on Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor M Manjur Alam at the city corporation office on Tuesday.
The mayor briefed him about the all city corporation projects.
Mayor told the secretary that lack of co-ordination among the service sectors has been hampering the development of the city.
He said good communications between these institutions can bring a discipline in the development sector.
He also requested the secretary to approve the projects of Tk 345 crore submitted by the city corporation to the government.
Md Habibullah Mazumdar said present government is serious about development of the port city.

Tree plantation programme held
A tree plantation programme was held in the port city on Friday.
Lions District Club Bangladesh and Bangladesh Railway jointly organised the event in the city's MA Aziz Stadium area.
Governor of Lions Club Md Nurul Islam inaugurated the event as the chief guest.
ABM Shamsul Arefin, AGM of Bangladesh Railway, railway official Rasheda Sultana, Lions SM Shamsuddin, Janhangir Alam, Habibur Rahman, SK Nandi, Engineer Nasir Uddin, ATM Nurul Alam and Tapan Kanti Dutta spoke at the programme.

Iftar party held
Ifatr party of Saraf Bhata Samity of Rangunia was held at its office in Chittagong on Saturday.
Samity also organised an open discussion before the Iftar with its convener Kazi A M M Momtajul Islam in the chair. Joint secretary SM Abul Fazal also spoke at the meeting.
