Contribution of Shamsur Rahman recalled
Poet Shamsur Rahman's 5th death anniversary was observed in the port city on Thursday.
To mark the day Proma Abritti Sanghathan, a cultural organisation, organised a poetry recitation evening at District Shilpakala Academy.
Poets Khalid Ahsan, Ezaz Yusufi, Biswajit Chowdhury, Shahid Anwar, Akhtar Hossain, Kamrul Hasan Badal, Selina Sheli, Ahmed Munir and Saikat Dey recited self-composed poems at the programme in memory of Shamsur Rahman.
Later, a group recitation titled 'Chal chhute jai' was performed.
Reciter Rashed Hasan moderated the event.
Govt trying to destroy nationalist forces: Fakhrul
Acting Secretary General of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the government is trying to destroy the nationalist forces in the name of war crimes trial.
Fakhrul said the government is not allowing the accused to discuss with the foreign lawyers and forced the lawyers to leave the country from the airport.
Terming it undemocratic, he said in the name of democracy they are destroying essence of democracy.
He was addressing as the chief guest a discussion at an Iftar mahfil organised by BNP Chittagong North District unit on the Outer Stadium premises.
Chittagong North unit BNP chief Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury presided over the programme. City unit President Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, General Secretary Dr Shadat Hossain, Farhat Quader Chowdhury, wife of Salaudddin Quader Chowdhury, BNP lawmaker Mahbub Uddin Khokan and BNP North unit Vice-President Prof MB Kamal Uddin Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion.
'Repair highways before Eid'
Speakers at a human chain programme in the port city on Sunday urged the government to finish the repair works of the highways before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Jono Udyog, People's Voice and Paribesh Chhatra Forum, the three environmental organisatios jointly organised the programme in front of Chittagong Press Club (CPC). Dr AQM Sirajul Islam, CCC Councillor Giyas Uddin and women's rights leader Jesmin Sultana Paru spoke at the event.
Speakers said government should not follow the shipping minister's suggestion to issue the driving licenses without any test.
They said communications minister is blaming others for his fault failing to perform his duty properly.
Concord's Eid offers
Concord Entertainment Co. Ltd has chalked out elaborate programmes for the visitors on the occasion of Eid holiday at Foy's Lake in the port city.
Park Foy's Lake Concord, Sea World and Foy's Lake resort have been decorated for entertaining the tourists on the occasion.
The main attractions of the lake are different kinds of rides like family coaster, bumper car, circus train, red and yellow dry slide and circus swing.
Sea World Foy's Lake is located in the same complex. Sea World, the biggest water park of the country, offers wave pool, slide world, family pool, multi-slide water fall, play zone and dancing zone and splash pools for entertainment.
Punishment to Sanjoy killers demanded
Bangladesh Chhatra Union on Monday demanded arrest and exemplary punishment to the Shibir cadres who killed its leader Sanjoy Talpatra, also a student of Fine Arts Department of Chittagong University.
The organisation made the demand at a rally following a human chain held on the Chittagong Press Club (CPC) premises.
Chittagong Union of Journalists' General Secretary Najim Uddin Symal, CU Chhatra Union President Taslim Uddin and Chhtra Union district unit's President Tawhid Tipu spoke at the rally.
Sanjoy was killed in an attack by Shibir cadres on August 20 in 1998.
