Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested four university students, including three from Dhaka University, in the capital yesterday for their alleged involvement with the banned Islamist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.
The arrested were identified as MBA student Aminul Islam, 22, pharmacy department students Rashedul Islam, 22, and Abdus Sakur Sarkar, 25, of Dhaka University; and BBA student Hamidul Islam, 25, of Asian University.
Of them, Aminul is hailing from Noakhali, Rashedul from Munsiganj, Abdus Sakur from Gaibandha, and Hamidul from Tangail districts.
On a tip-off, a team from the Rab headquarters arrested the four with a good number of books, leaflets and other materials of the banned outfit from Khilgaon, Sayedabad and Jatrabari areas early yesterday, Rab officials said.
Police and Rab sources said since October 22 in 2009, over 500 activists of the organisation were arrested.
