Universal Children's Day 2012

Jaago Foundation to mark Nov 15

Volunteer for Bangladesh (VBD), a wing of Jaago Foundation, will celebrate the Universal Children's Day (UCD) 2012 through a nationwide campaign on November 15.
The announcement came at a press conference organised by Jaago Foundation at Jatiya Press Club in the capital yesterday.
The day will be celebrated in Bangladesh this year on the theme “Quality Education for All”.
Around 10,000 VBD volunteers, mostly students of schools, colleges and universities, will participate in the campaign titled “UCD 2012”, selling flowers and distributing brochures at the busiest traffic points in 21 districts, including Dhaka.
The volunteers will present a day of respite to around 1,200 disadvantaged street children by swapping places with them. “Our idea is to let them pass a day as children,” said Korvi Rakshand, founder of Jaago Foundation.
Akku Chowdhury, executive director of Transcom Foods, said the spirit of the young volunteers reminded of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters during the Liberation War.
Wasfia Nazreen, the second Bangladeshi woman to conquer Mount Everest, said Jaago Foundation has been assisting underprivileged children in getting the benefits of education. The event is being sponsored by Transcom Foods Limited, Summit Power, Renata Limited, Unilever Bangladesh, Lifebuoy, Exim Bank and Elite Force while The Daily Star is among its media partners.
