Army to get locally made vessel
Khulna Shipyard Limited will handover a newly built Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel (LCVP) to Bangladesh Army today.
Army Chief General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan will receive the vessel, which measures at 19.75 metres in length and 7 metres in width, said Commander Monirul Ahsan, also the deputy general manager of Khulna Shipyard.
China Shipbuilding Offshore Company (CSOC) made the designs and provided the materials for construction of the vessel, the first of its kind built for Bangladesh Army.
Former army chief Abdul Mubin had inaugurated its construction works on June 29, 2011.
The ship is able to move at a speed of 12-20 nautical miles an hour, Monirul said, adding that the import of such a vessel would cost the country over Tk 50 crore.
