2 killed in bus-truck collision in Gopalganj, 20 hurt

Two people were killed and at least 20 injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at Kashiani upazila in Gopalganj yesterday.

The identity of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.

Following the crash around 9:00pm, vehicular movement on both sides of the busy highway came to a halt until 10:45pm. Traffic resumed afterwards.

Quoting locals, Kashiani Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khondokar Hafizur Rahman said the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound truck collided head-on with a New Baleshwar Paribahan bus coming from Khulna.

"As a result, two including the truck driver died on the spot and 20 others were injured," the OC said.

Upon receiving information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot, rescued the injured, and sent them to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex and Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital for treatment, he added.
